A Philip Grim is on board the ship Two Brothers arrived in Philadelphia from Rotterdam in 1748.1

Philip married Anna Barbara Bushong in East Lampeter, Lancaster, Pennsylvania on 5 June 1749. Anna had crossed the Atlantic with her family aboard the ship Britannia from Rotterdam to Philadelphia in 1731. Anna was age six, father Hans age 39, mother Barbara age 37, older brother Philip age 9, and younger sister Christianna age 3.1

Between 1751 and 1765, while living in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Philip, and Anna Barbara had two daughters, Christiana and Dorthea, and four sons, Peter, Michael, Daniel, and John.

Philip is listed as a private in Captain George Long's Company of York County Militia in Lancaster County on 7 January 1778. The inventory of his accouterments and ammunition included:

  • One Flintlock
  • One Bayonet & Belds.
  • One Cartridges, Boxes & Belds.
  • Two Flints
  • Twelve Cartridges

Philip paid the supply tax in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania, in 1781 on 20 acres and 1782 on 25 acres. He is enumerated in the same township through 1790.

Philip dies sometime before 24 December 1793, the date his Will is proved. In his Will, he names his wife Barbara and son Peter executors. He bequeaths shares of his estate to his wife Barbara and children Peter, Christiana, Michael, Dorothea (wife of Conrad Miller), Daniel, and John.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
