Qualifying Service Description:
  1. 1775, served as a Minuteman in the company of Captain John Leland, commanded by Colonel Abijah Peirce (later Colonel Ephraim Doolittle). During this time, he was also associated with Captain Jacob Miller under Colonel Doolittle and others
  2. 1776, served as a Private in the company of Captain Chamberlain, commanded by Colonel Wheelock
  3. 1778, served as a Corporal in the company of Captain Burbank, commanded by Colonel Meade
  4. 1778, served as a Blacksmith in the company of Captain Edgell, same regiment
  5. 1780, served in the company of Captain Bedford, commanded by Colonel Jemott

This biography contains a combination of information supplied by compatriot Paul Snyder and the PRS staff.

Moses was born on 9 Jun 1753 in Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.  

He enlisted from Holliston as a Minuteman in Captain John Leland's Company under Colonel Ephraim Doolittle. He marched from Holliston to Cambridge on 19 Jul 1775 and fought at Bunker Hill. He also served from 26 Jun 1778 to 1 Jan 1779 under Captain Joseph Griffith and Colonel John Jacob. He was a Private in six-month levies raised by Holliston in 1780 and served on 7 Jan 1781. His duties included blacksmith, and he shod the horse of Marquis de Lafayette. 

He married Abigail Johnson on 1 May 1784 in Holliston, Massachusetts. Their known children were:

  • Aaron was born on 11 April 1789 and married Relief Burt.
  • Abner was born on 1 Feb 1797
  • Harry was born on 29 Mar 1787 and married Hannah Fisher.
  • John was born on 13 May 1792
  • Joseph was born on 5 Jun 1794 and married Roxanna Vila.
  • Moses was born on 5 Jun 1785
  • William was born on 25 February 1802 and married Hannah Kelley.
  • Hiram was born on 21 January 1804 and married Betsey Kelley.

The Patriot died on 20 October 1936 in Hopkinton, Middlesex, Massachusetts. He is thought to have been buried at Evergreen (also known as Woodville) Cemetery, where there is a granite stone that is not contemporary with the death of the Patriot.
