Ebenezer Gould was born in 1760 in Topsfield, Massachusetts, to Eliezer and Phoebe (Gould) Gould.

The marriage intent for his marriage to Anna Cooke was on 21 September 1785 in Douglas, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Michael and Sarah (Mitchell) Cooke. This marriage produced the following known children:

Mary, 1785-1805
Benjamin was born in 1787 and married Olive Jepherson
David was born in 1789 and married Mary T. Pidge
Sally was born in 1791 and married Amos C. Aldrich
Nancy was born in 1794 and married Richard Robinson
Bathsheba was born in 1796 and married Parris Hall
Comfort was born in 1798-1870 and married Charlotte Carpenter (from whom I descended)
John was born in 1800-1844 and married Ann E. Whiting and married second to Susan Price
Susan was born in 1803 and married Nathaniel Carpenter and married second to Samuel Williams, Jr.
Amos was born in 1804 and married Dolly Read
Eben was born in 1806 and married Ruth H. Bishop
William was born in 1809 and married Mary A. Durfee

Ebenezer was a Private in Captain Job Knop's Company and enlisted on 2 March 1781, with rolls sworn at Douglas, Massachusetts. The Company marched to Rhode Island, and this young soldier was discharged on 15 March 1781. Several generations of his descendants have joined the SAR and DAR through this young soldier. Many of us have multiple supplementals approved of those who served longer or who had higher ranks, yet our initial applications have been based on a young farmer who answered the alarm.

In his early years, Ebenezer relocated from Topsfield, Massachusetts, to Douglas, Massachusetts, where he was to become established in farming and the newly emerging industry. His family went on to be leaders in early manufacturing, such as the shoe business in the area, which was well known, as well as emerging textile manufacturing, in which two grandsons, Sheldon B., and P.W. Gould, would become patent leaders. One remaining manufacturer of early American prowess in the area remains the Alden Company, a remnant of once strong American industry.

The Patriot died on 22 August 1810 in Douglas, Massachusetts, and was interred there.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
