Author: Lt Col Gary Owen Green

James Gilliam removed with his family to Sumner County, Tennessee, after serving in the Revolutionary War.  He died there in the summer of 1821, and was buried at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.  The cemetery is situated north upon Pleasant Grove Road, from the intersection with E John Davis Rd.

He married Frances Hopkins (abt. 1754-1823) in 1772 at Virginia.  Their son James was born about 1773 at Prince Edward County, Virginia.  He married Martha Matthews in 1798 at Prince Edward County.  He died in 1841 at Prince Edward County, Virginia.
