Qualifying Service Description:
- Enlisted as a sailor in 1781 at New London, CT Served on Brigantine "Favorite", sloop "Randolph," schooner "De Crops" and brigantine "Martin."
- Captured twice by the British first time sent to Blackburn Island in New York harbor, escaped, then the second time sent to prison ship the "Jersey." . He escaped there and served out the rest of the war

- Spouses: Sarah Babcock Gavitt; Born Mar 1765 - Died 18 Apr 1839; Buried: Old Colony Burying Ground Plot 246; Granville / Licking /OH. Married Anne Deveraux. In spring of 1788 he became a resident of Granville, MA. Emigrated to Granville, OH, in 1805. Never pensioned.
