Born on September 8, 1759 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania to father Johannes Andres Getz. He served as a Private in the Northampton County Militia and as a Lt. and Captain in Lancaster County; George was a private on a muster role of Captain Lewis Starcher's Company of the 6th Class of the 2nd Battalion of Northampton County's Militia from January l, 1780 to November 18, 1780; He was with Captain Gantz in April 1783 in the Fourth Battalion of the Lancaster County Militia. He married Maria Seville Stiehl (1761-1852) in 1782 in PA; children: Magdalena b. 1782, Mary b. 1786, Daniel b. 1788, Valentine b. 1789, Susannah b. 1790, Henry b. 1795, George b. 1797, Solomon b. 1798, Seville b. 1801 and John b. 1806. Born in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, he was married in Lancaster County, PA. He appears to have served in the Revolution in both counties. Three of their ten children were born in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Five were born in Washington County, PA, and two were born in Belmont County, Ohio. He was an early settler in York Township, Belmont County. He died there on November 28, 1842 at 83 years of age and buried at Boger Cemetery, York Township, Belmont County, OH. MI Inscription: “Ranger on the Frontier - PA. Served Under Maj. Daniel Boone Yorktown - Revolutionary War.” Cemetery notes and/or description:

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
