Peter Gary, Gheri, Gehrey,Geary , Gerry, Geri circa 1762 – Nov 1843 was born in New Jersey signed up for the Army at the home of his brother, Killian. His brother was married in Zion Lutheran Church in Hunterdon County, NJ in what was then New Germantown and is now Oldwick. It was 7 miles north of the city of Philadelphia in Northhampton County. His length of service was from March 1782 until June, 1783. In 1806 Peter received 100 acres of bounty land in Coshocton County, Ohio. Killian received his land near Lancaster, Ohio and moved there.
He was a member of the 4th PA Battalion in the Artillery under Joseph Ashton, Col. Porter and General Lincoln. He was a fifer in the band under the direction of William Moore, master of music His brother Killian also served. The two brothers moved to Bedford County later Somerset County, PA about 1785. In 1778 he received his reward of eighty dollars.
On 29 July 1790 he married Catherine Kester(Kuster with an umlaut) at Samuels Reformed Lutheran Church in Berlin, PA. In his estate he had two German Bibles so we know he was German speaking. They had ten children: Anna Elizabeth married Paul Henry, Peter Jr. married Evie Helsel, Sarah married Robert Clark, Catherine married James Mickey, Rebecca married John Whipkey, Mary married George Lenhart, Jonathon married Nancy Agnes Clark, Killian married Patience Limber, Adam married Susan Nicklow , Rosannah married John Clark.
In his will he asked that he be buried in the cemetery of his friend, Christian Schrock Beside him is John Garey about 1721 to 1822. He also served in the Revolution.
