The footstone for the couple can still be plainly read, “H.F. & M.F.” his gravestone remains, mostly shaled away and broken. Margaret’s marker is unreadable

Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn
Born in 1751, Piscataway, Prince Georges Co., Maryland to father Michael Franks. He served as a Pvt under Capt John Miner, Captain Jesse Pigman, Capt John Welsel, Capt Thomas Swann, Capt William Crawford and Col Evans in the Pennsylvania Militia. He Married Margaret Van Buskirk (_-1844) in 1779; children: Henry, Mary Ann, Ann, Isaac, John, Wesley, Clarissa, Elizabeth, Margaret Peggy, James V., Maria Louisa and & Owen. In 1775 he lived in Greene County, PA, in 1782 moved to Clines Fort on the Monogahela River, then in 1789 to Maryland about 25 miles from Cumberland, again moved in 1796 to Hampshire County, Virginia, in 1813 to Ohio County, VA and finally in 1815 to Washington County, OH. He Died on January 14, 1842 in Grandview Twp Washington Co, OH and Buried at Grandview Twp. Cemetery, Washington County, OH. Henry and Margaret Van Buskirk Franks are buried in a small cemetery near the northeast corner of the government property and what was once Lock 16 at Beavertown, Ohio. Henry Franks died Jan. 14, 1842 and his gravestone remains, mostly shaled away and broken. Margaret’s marker is unreadable, but it is thought that she died April 26, 1844, aged 84 years.
