John Francis was in Captain Well's Company of Colonel Erastus Wolcott's Regiment of State Troops of the Wethersfield Militia from December 1775 to February 1776.  Francis was promoted to Second Lieutenant in Captain Elijah Wright's Company of Colonel Roger Enas' Regiment of Connecticut Militia.  He arrived in camp, June 28, 1778, and served until 1780.  Francis was promoted to Captain of the Wethersfield Militia as ordered by the General Assembly.  The company was raised for short notice I the event George Washington called for reinforcements, until 1781.
