Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn
Born on December 27, 1759 or 49, Brookfield, Worchester County, Massachusetts to parents Jedediah Foster (1726-1779) and Dorothy Dwight (1729-1818). He served as a Pvt in Capt Daniel Gilber's Company, Col Job Cushing's Regiment, from July 30, 1777, to September 2, 1777, 1 mo. 4 days, at Bennington and Half Moon; company marched from Brookfield July 30, 1777; also, Sergeant, Captain Asa Danforth's Company of volunteers, Colonel Convers's Regiment; service, 31 days; company marched from Brookfield Sept. 23, 1777, to join army under Gen. Gates; also, Capt Daniel Gilbert's Company, Colonel Josiah Whitney's Regiment; service from Aug. 2,1780, to Sept. 13, 1780, 1 mo. 16 days, at Rhode Island. He married Mary (Polly) Parkman (1756-1823) in 1780 in MD; children: Betsey Marietta b. 1788, Polly b. 1781 and Peregrine Pitt b. 1786. They settled in Belpre Twp in 1796. He was one of the surveyors in the company of pioneers who landed at Marietta, Apr 7, 1788. In 1796 secured a franchise for a ferry across the Ohio River. He Died on August 17, 1804 in Belpre, OH and Buried in Belpre Cemetery, Rockland, Washington Co., OH. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
