John Foster was born in Abingdon Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia c. 1728 and baptized on April 7, 1728. His occupation is unknown. He paid supply taxes in 1783 to support the American Revolution. He married Rose before 1772. They had ten children: John, b. c. 1752 and d. c. 1814; Isaac, b. c. 1755 and d. c. 1804; Jessie, b. 1774; Louisa, b. November 2, 1756; Josiah, b. December 7, 1758; Amelia, b. October 9, 1760 and d. December 8, 1794; Joel, b. August 15, 1762 and d. August 11, 1851, in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana; Sally, b. February 10, 1765; Rosey, b. May 14, 1762; and Sarah, d. October 20, 1760.
John Foster died c. 1784 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia. His place of burial is unknown.
John Foster had a patriotic family. His four sons who served in the American Revolution in the Gloucester Virginia Militia were Captain Josiah Foster, Lieutenant John Foster (Surgeon), Lieutenant Isaac Foster, and Private Joel Foster.

The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
