Samuel Foot (aka Foote) was born on 4 Oct 1719 at Hartford, Connecticut (CT). Foot’s father was Daniel Foote (1689-1740) of Hartford who died as a result of a farming accident at age 51 and his mother was Mary Collyer, a daughter of Joseph Collyer, same town –married Daniel 19 Nov 1718. The family moved from Hartford to Simsbury, CT in 1721 after the father purchased a family farm.

Samuel’s siblings included: 3 bros., Daniel b. 1724 at Simsbury; Joseph b. 1727 (Simsbury); John b. 1729 (Simsbury); and 4 sisters, Mary b. 1721 at Simsbury; Rachel b. 1731, died 27 Jan 1737 (Simsbury); Sarah Foote Boardman [b. 1732 (married Daniel Boardman of Weathersfield on 9 Jun 1762)] and, Rachel b. Mar., 1736 in Simsbury were members the First Congregational Church of Bloomfield, CT formerly the Wintonbury Society from the period 1738-1924.

Samuel’s marriage on 24 Nov 1743 was solemnized with Lois Loomis, a daughter of Ichabod and Hephzibah Loomis. Lois b. 1724 at Windsor, CT died during 1755.

Samuel initially enlisted during 1758 within the Colonial Connecticut (CT) Hartford County Militia at Windsor. His (5th) Company Capt. was Andrew Ward; and, First Rgt. (CT) Militia commander was Col. Phineas Lyman; source, CT Soldiers, French and Indian War, 1755-62.

Lieut. Samuel Foot’s death at age, 55 was recorded on 18 Sep 1775 at an encampment where his company’s (First) Connecticut Militia Rgt. was formed and trained recruits from the towns of Ellington, Tolland (both in Tolland County) and Hartford at Hartford County.

A search of Revolutionary War private Samuel Chapman’s pension claim # S.12472 revealed that Chapman recalled his enlistment (1775-Feb 1776) in a New England Militia company formed from the towns of Ellington, Tolland (both Tolland County) and Hartford, CT under Capt. Solomon Wyllys, aka Willes, Lieuts. Jonathan Parker and Samuel Foot and Ensign Noah Chapin for two month term. Chapman’s CT Militia commander was noted as Col. Erastus Wolcott. The company and (First) Rgt. marched under the command of Col. Wolcott to Cambridge near Boston for one month quartered at the “College” until Mar. From Cambridge said (First) Connecticut Militia Rgt. marched to Roxbury, MA where it camped through Apr. 1776 and Chapman stated, he was discharged in that place to return home to Tolland, CT.

His identity, above, and age and date of death appear recorded within an alphabetical, fourteen (14) original volumes, index publication -Connecticut Church Records, State Library Index, Bloomfield Congregational Church 1738-1924, publ. copyright, 1958, pg 84. On this pg., also appears Samuel Foot’s son by the same name, baptized on 28 Oct 1744; appearing listed two lines above, that of his son, is an index entry, Samuel, renewed covenant Jan. 14, 1739, Vol. I, pg 10.
