The following biography has been edited by PRS staff.
Henry Field was born on 3 February 1755 in Culpeper County, Virginia.
During the early days of the American Revolution, Henry enlisted in the company of Captain John Green in the fall of 1775 in the First Regiment of the Virginia Continental Line. The regiment was commanded by Major Richard Taylor and Colonel Patrick Henry. He served until the fall of 1776. He then enlisted in the same regiment for three years. At this time, the regiment was commanded by John Green. After serving about three months, Henry was taken from the ranks by General Finney, who was stationed at Williamsburg, for the purpose of riding and carrying expresses. He served until the end of the term, having enlisted and discharged from Williamsburg.
His first wife was a Miss Cardwell. They married about 1781 in Culpeper County, Virginia. They had the following known children:
James Lewis was born on 10 March 1783 and married Elizabeth Stevens.
Henry married his second wife, Sukey Withers, on 4 March 1789. She was born on 19 January 1765 and was the daughter of James and Sukey Withers. Their known children, as found in the family bible, were:
Sukey Waller Huett was born on 4 April 1790 and died young.
James Withers was born on 29 May 1791 and died on 22 November 1807.
Lucinda was born on 26 December 1792 and married Lewis Sales.
Willey Waller was born on 17 March 1794 and married Samuel Farris.
Nancy was born on 25 December 1795 and married Thomas Pearman.
Jane was born on 14 October 1797 and married Samuel Pearman.
Hannah was born on 27 December 1799.
Henry Peyton was born on 4 April 1801 and married Margaret Kennett.
Susanna Huett was born on 11 April 1803 and married William Terry.
Malinda was born on 12 April 1805 and married Charles Y. Wheeler.
Charles Withers was born on 16 December 1807 and married Rebecca B Greenfield.
Sally S. was born on 20 January 1811 and died on 12 July 1814.
The Patriot died on 27 May 1823 in Bullit County, Kentucky. His place of burial has been lost to time.
