Born in 1727 at Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a son of George Espy and Jean Taylor.  He served as a member of the committee of safety.  He married Elizabeth Patterson (1735-1809) in 1758; children: George, Mary, Josiah, Hugh, David, Martha and James.  He died in 1801 at Greene County, Ohio, and was buried at Stevenson Cemetery, Jones Road, Wilberforce, Greene County, Ohio, also known as Massies Creek Cemetery, Massies Creek Scotch Associate Graveyard and Old Massies Creek Cemetery.  References:  NSDAR Natl No 61584, D.A.R.
