David Epperson was born on 27 May 1734, as recorded in the Parish Register of Saint Peter’s Church in New Kent County, Virginia. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Epperson.
According to a family history written by Edna Epperson Brinkman in 1933, David married Hannah Thompson around 1753 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Together, they had thirteen known children.
A devout supporter of American independence, David Epperson signed the Petition of Dissenters in Albemarle and Amherst Counties in the year 1776. This petition called for religious liberty and was a bold statement supporting the separation of church and state in the newly emerging American government.
According to records from the National Archives and the Revolutionary War pension files, four of David’s eight sons engaged in active military service during the American Revolution. Two served in the VA Continental Line and two served in various milita units:
David's sons James and John payed the 1783 Supply Tax. Brinkman (1933) reports that sons William and Robert also rendered service during the Revolution, but no official records have been located to confirm this. His youngest son, Charles, was not of age to serve.
David Epperson’s own documented Revolutionary service was the payment of the Supply Tax in 1783, which supported the war effort. He also appears in Albemarle County tax records for the years 1782 and from 1784 through 1788.
He survived the war and wrote his Last Will and Testament in February 1799. This document was probated in the October Court of Albemarle County, Virginia, in October of that same year. In his will, David named his wife, Hannah, and listed his eleven surviving children: Charles, John, Robert, James, Thompson, William, Judith, Elizabeth, Susannah, Hannah, and Lucy.
David Epperson is buried on his former property at Blue Ridge Farm Cemetery in Greenwood, Albemarle County, Virginia. His grave is commemorated with a memorial on Find a Grave (Memorial ID: 89656188).

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
