John Emery was born from the marriage of Margreth Hummerich and Conrad Hinrick Emery on 01 Jan 1742 in Lebanon, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

He first married Cathrine Apgar in 1760 but there were no children born of this marriage.

He later married Mary Reed (born 22 Dec 1743) on 28 Nov 1765 in Lebanon, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. They had eleven children: Mary Emery (b. 07 Aug 1766), John Emery II (b. 23 Jun 1768), Peter Emery (b. 05 Feb 1770), William Emery (b. 16 Nov 1772), Mary Emery (b. 07 Oct 1773), Joseph Emery (b. 10 Apr 1775), Jacob Emery (b. 07 Sep 1777), David Emery (b. 04 Jan 1780), Conrad Emery (b. 09 May 1782), Catherine Emery (b. 1785), and Henry Emery (b. 06 Aug 1788).

John Emery served as a private in the Revolutionary War from Pennsylvania. His name first appeared on the Muster Roll of 15 May 1777 in Captain James Moore’s Company, Fifth Pennsylvania Regiment, and his name last appears on the roll of 09 September 1778 which shows him sick at the Yellow Springs.

He died 13 May 1814 and is buried in Plaingrove Cemetery, Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
