Born at Pennypack Woods, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, July 28, 1753, a son of John Dunlap (1718-1813) and Sarah Gillespie (1722-1799). He was under Captains Galick, Cornelius Gearheart, Jacob Gearhart, Beaver, and Colonel George Ely in state of New Jersey as a Private. He was on detail to keep fires burning to deceive the enemy while Washington marched to Brunswick and was in battle of Milltown. He married (1) Nancy Giles (1764-1803) in 1783, (2) Anna E. Williams (1797-1839) in 1817; Children: Sarah (born Aug 8, 1786, married Daniel Scott), Asenath, Ann Elizabeth, Alexander, John, Joseph, Giles, Thomas and Margaret. He applied for a pension, while a resident of Middletown, Ohio, Revolutionary War Pension *S8374, granted in 1834, aged 82 years. He died July 25, 1834 at Maumee, Wood County, Ohio, and buried in a family plot at Dunlap Cemetery, on private property at Haskins, Wood County, Ohio 43402, along State Route 65 near Frost Road in Middleton Township near Haskins, Wood County. An 1837 deed on file with the Wood County Recorder’s Office states that the property includes “the ground occupied by the graves of Robert Dunlap and children” that is “to be used as a burying ground and no other purpose whatsoever.” References: NSDAR Natl No. 63002, Vol. 64, pg. 2, D.A.R. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
