Qualifying Service Description:
  1. Private in Capt Wm. Knox's (NC), Whig militia company raised for Rowan County during 1776, Colonel Alexander Martin
  2. Enlisted 1776 to 1777 served 9 months as a private under Capt Wm Knox, Colonel Alexander Martin, NC. Enlisted in 1777 to 1778 served 6 weeks under Thomas Kennedy as Capt and John Harden
  3. Enlisted in 1778 to 1779 and served 6 months under Capt Thomas Sytle
  4. Enlisted in 1780 served 2 months under Capt Thomas Kennedy and engaged in battle of Ramsuar's Mill where he was wounded by a 90 caliber lead ball in left shoulder
  5. also was at Kings Mountain
  6. DAR RC# 409791 states: PRIVATE: CAPTs KNOX, KENADY, HARDEN, LYTLE, COLs MARTIN, SHARPE

During the Rev War Capt. Wm. Knox's company attached to the [Rowan Co., (NC) regt. (later formed into Burke Co.)] marched from Salisbury, NC to Wilmington, upon orders of the Gov. of North Carolina to join Gen Charles Lee for the defence of Charleston, SC. On Aug. 4, 1777, his company was discharged & returned home when, Capt. Knox was accidentially killed; service nine months & a few days
