Author: Michael B. Gunn
Born in 1749 in Amsterdam, Holland. Served as a Pennsylvania Patriot in the Revolutionary War providing shelter, giving aid and supplying clothing and stores to American Service Men as a wealthy merchant in Lisbon, Portugal spent large sums assisting the United States. He married 1) __ ?, 2) Rachel Banks (1763-1855); children: George Arnold, Margaretha, Peter, Jacob Arnold, Maria, Charlotte, Francis Arnold and Arnold Henry. Arnold’s funds were so depleted that the Congress granted him a salary as an agent of the United States and also gave him land in what is now Ohio. He was given Twp. 13, R. 7 consisting of 23, 040 acres (six square miles). It was three-fifths of Franklin Township, including the dam and western part of Tappan Lake and the three southwestern sections and three half sections in Monroe Township, Harrison County, OH; as well as nine sections in Mill Twp., and a small part of Dennison and Rush Twp., including Stillwater in Tuscarawas County. He Died on February 14, 1813 in Jefferson County, OH and buried at Union Cemetery, Lot 2 – Section 1 – grave 1, 1720 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, OH. 43952 GM by Steubenville D. A.
