George Doherty (20 May 1732, Ireland- 23 Apr 1793, Hillsborough, Orange, NC)

He served 84 months (7 years) and ranks went from 1st Lt. to Captain to Major. He served as a Captain in the 5th and 6th Regiments and as Major in the 4th NC Continental Line. He also served as a Major in General Jethro Sumner’s brigade. He was the clothing supply officer, traveling within the states of South/ North Carolina. He purchased land in Duplin and Sampson in NC and appeared to live in these areas for a while. He married Mary Freeman (1747-1836) and had at least two children Frances Wilson Doherty (1786-1850) and Nelly Doherty Mason (1788-)

George Doherty married Mary Freeman (Burke) widow of Thomas Burke Esq. in 1785. This is a DEBT made by George to James Hogg Esq. the guardian of his step-daughter Polly Burke.

Will: Do bequeath all my Real and personal Estate to my wife Mary and her three daughters; that is to say, Polly W Burke, Frances Doherty and Nelly Doherty. Revoking all former Wills. Appoint wife Mary Executerix and James Gilaspie Executor, Dated 10 Oct. 1791
