Christopher was actually born on the Ship Edinburgh in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean December 31, 1754. When he was old enough, he was indentured to learn a trade at Hamburg, Berks County, PA. He was a Revolutionary War soldier, served for a time in the militia and after his death, his widow Margaret received a pension. He married Margaret Sidtler April 27, 1774 at Douglassville, Berks County, PA. Their children were: Dietrick, Henry, Philip, Jacob, Simon, John, Mary and Elizabeth He came with his family to Muncy Valley PA and settled on a tract of land near Hughesville. While preparing a home he found hospitable shelter with the family of the father of the late Jacob Hill, who had come before them from the same county. After building his house he was forced to abandon it, as well as the land, because of a prior claim, forfeiting all that had been done by way of improvement.
After this unlucky experience Christopher removed to the elevated land, two and one-half miles south of Muncy, and built a house by the road leading to Milton. Here this family grew up and were received into Immanuel's Lutheran Church. All continued to live in the same community, except one son, who removed to Juniata County, where the family is now represented in the Lutheran church. Some of the family took a deep interest in Immanuel's Church in every period of its history. The family has one representative in the Lutheran ministry, Rev. J. B. Dimm, D.D. Source: "History of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania".
He died September 1, 1831 in Lycoming County, PA. He is buried in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Muncy, PA. The original grave marker was carved by his son Simon and he also carved out of the cornerstones of the church. Christopher was a 2nd Lieutenant in Captain Jacob Rodamel’s 1st Battalion, Berks County PA Militia.
Christopher is also an established DAR patriot ancestor. DIMM, CHRISTOPHER DAR Ancestor #: A032196
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
