When Aaron DeWitt was born on January 3, 1760, in Cranbury, New Jersey, his father, Peter, was 25 and his mother, Phebe, was 23. He married Mary Debow on September 11, 1785. They had at least two children during their marriage. 

He served as a Private in the NJ Militia in CAPT Joachim Gulick's Company, COL Scudder's Regiment; CAPT Chambers' Company, COL Neilson's Regiment.

He died on June 11, 1827, in his hometown at the age of 67, and was buried in Middlesex, New Jersey.
