Born at Kent County, Delaware, August 8, 1742, a son of Samuel De Weese (1719-1753) and Mary Williams. He served in Richard Dalinas' Company from Kent County, Delaware. He married 1) Elizabeth Bowman (1745-1774) in 1765; 2) Hannah Birch (1750-1775) in 1774; 3) Elizabeth New; Children: Anna, Thomas, Lewis, Samuel, William, James, Jethro, Joshua, Elizabeth and Mary. He and his brothers, John and Cornelius, joined the patriots of the Revolutionary War in Captain Dallinger's company. Joshua is said to have been with the patriots at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-1778, where he lost part of his foot due to frost bite. Born a Presbyterian, Joshua underwent a conversion and became a Baptist Minister in Mispillion Hundred, Kent County, Delaware. He died at Miami County, Ohio, January 25, 1819 and was buried at Staunton Cemetery, Troy, Miami County, Ohio. References: Ohio. Booklet. SAR Ancestor# P-147440. Gravesite unknown.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format.
