Born April 1761 in France. He served as a drummer and soldier under Captain Dobson, having enlisted March 1, 1780 in 6th Maryland Regiment under the command of Major Landsell Prince George's Command. He was in the battles of Guilford Court House, Camden, Eutaw Springs and the Siege of Ninety-Six. He was wounded in the hand during his service. He served until June 1783. He married Sarah Burrell (1778-1840) in 1798; children: Alexander Burrell Denune, Catherine, Caroline and Lucinda. He received a pension in 1819 for his Revolutionary War Service as a Private in the Maryland Continental Line. He died November 28, 1838 at Franklin County, OH, at the age of 77 years and was buried at Riverside Cemetery, 3840 Sunbury Road, Plot Section 3-lot 2-Space 46, Columbus, OH 43230. MI: "John Denune died Nov 28, 1838, aged 77 years." GM by descendants and D.A.R., October 16, 1927. His name is on the marble tablet of Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin County, Ohio, in Memorial Hall Lobby, Columbus. References: Natl No 93797, Vol 94, p 247. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author.
