Qualifying Service Description:
  1. 1778, he served as a Corporal and later a Sergeant in the company of Captain John Lyle, commanded by Colonel George Scott's VA Regiment
  2. 1781, he served as a Sergeant in the company of Captain James Eaton, commanded by Colonel George Scott

Springbank is an active cemetery on route 104 in Ross County. It is well cared for. Close to the Ross and Pickaway County line, just beyond the little community of Yellowbud. The cemetery is located in Union Township, Ross County, Ohio

Anthony Davenport was born on 19 May 1757, in Piscataway, Maryland, the son of Abraham and Mary Jane (Simms) Davenport.

He was married twice. The first was to Elizabeth Harris. He married his second wife, Mary Hare Bazzle, in Maryland on 21 March 1785. His known children were:

  • Nancy was born on 10 December 1780 and married [given name indetermined] Hare.
  • Willa Miner was born on 14 January 1783 and married William Morgan.
  • Joseph was born on 19 January 1788 and died young.
  • Abraham was born on 7 December 1791 and married Penelope Griffith.
  • Westly was born on 8 December 1793 and married Sarah Halstead.
  • Bazzle was born on 5 January 1796 and married Sara Evans.
  • Ira was born on 1 June 1797 and married 1) Nancy Henderson, [given name indetermined] Rebark, and 3) Minerva Riede.
  • Eleanor was born in May 1799.
  • John was born on 21 July 1800.
  • Ancelita was born on 1 August 1801 and married Adam Minear.
  • William was born on 25 September 1802.
  • Mary was born on 25 December 1806 and married Thomas Thompson.

Anthony was a Sergeant in Captain John Lyle’s Company, Colonel George Scott’s Regiment of the Berkley County, Virginia Militia. He also served in Captain John Eaton’s and Lieutenant Robert Kennedy’s Companies in Major John Morrow’s and Colonel George Scott’s Regiments. He helped build Forts McIntosh, Laurens, and Lawrence.

He moved to Ross County in 1798 and started collecting pension on 8 July 1833 in Pickaway County. The 1830 census has him in Wayne Township with his son Bazzle. 

The Patriot died on 19 June 1835. The exact location of his death is unknown. Two SAR Applications state he died in Pickaway County. He is buried in Springbank Cemetery, Ross County, with his wife, who died in Ross County.
