Johannes/John Kuller/Cullers/Culler was born about 12 December 1747, a son of Jacob Koeller and Mary Magdalene Abeline.  His father immigrated from Germany in 1743, settling first at Philadelphia and later at Frederick County, Maryland.  John's name at baptism was Johannes Koller.  He became John Kullers when he moved to Virginia, and later his name became Cullers.  He grew up on the family farm.  Maryland had organized a system to address grievances imposed by Great Britain with the formation of a provisional government known as the Maryland Convention.  The Executive Branch of the Convention was the Council of Safety.  Reporting to this council and keeping watch at the county level for those disloyal to the provisional government was the Committee of Observation.  John Cullers was a member of the Committee of Observation and was referred to as an associator.  John married Anna Maria Mueller, 4 April 1775, at Frederick, Maryland.  He bought the property known as Teaboes Fort, 22 August 1777, at Shenandoah County, Virginia.  He was one of the earliest recorded official deed holders on record at Shenandoah County.  John and Anna had the following children:   Mary Magdalena, Elizabeth, Catherine, Jacob, John Randolph, Henry Samuel and Daniel.  John died 1796 and was buried at Dry Run Cemetery at Seven Fountains, Fort Valley, Shenandoah County, Virginia.  Anna Maria died in 1832 and was buried next to John.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
