Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn

Born May 10, 1765 at Weymouth, Massachusetts, a son of Christopher Colson and Experience White. Grandson of John Colson and Deborah Sprague (b.1715); Great-grandson of John Colson (1681-1752) and Susanna Lincoln (1688-1715); great-great grandson of Thomas Lincoln (1652-1698) and Sarah Lewis (1661-1732), who were also ancestors of President Anraham Lincoln. He enlisted July 9, 1781 at the age of 16 years and served as a fifer throughout the Revolutionary War. He served under the command of Captains Clay and Smith; Lt Col Calvin Smith, 6th Massachusetts Regiment. He married Patty Brown (1779-1855); children: Lovina b. 1797, Simira, Emily, Christopher and Patty b. 1818. He removed to Ohio in 1810 and was Willoughby's first Post Master, having walked to Washington to secure his appointment. He died at Willoughby, OH in 1824 and was buried on Daniel's farm just east at Willoughby Village Cemetery, Willoughby, Lake County, OH. GM by New Connecticut Chap. Ref: No 26245, Vol 27, p 89. D. A.
