Patriot Zebediah Coburn was born October 29, 1756 at Windham in Windham County, Connecticut. He was the son of Elizabeth Durkee (1737-1826 ) and Zebediah Coburn, Sr. (1732- ____ ). In circa 1780, he married Luna Kendall (1762-1831).
Zebediah Coburn’s Revolutionary Pension is based on the following continental service: Zebediah Coburn enlisted in Windham, Connecticut in January of 1776 and served as a private in Captain Wills Clift’s Company, Colonel John Durkee’s Connecticut regiment; was in the battle of Trenton and Princeton. Zebediah served in Continental Regiments commanded formerly by Gen. Putnam and he appears on a return of the vacancies in the several Regiments and Companies in Col. Frye's Brigade. He was discharged at Scotch Pines, New Jersey in 1777. He enlisted the second time for nine months in June 1778 in Ludlow, Massachusetts. Zebediah served as a fifer to reinforce the northern army at Fishkill, NY. He served as a private in Captain Compton’s Company; Colonel John Greaton’s Massachusetts Regiment and was discharged in March 22, 1779 near West Point, NY. He enlisted the third time for three years in South Hadley, Massachusetts and served as a private in Captain Smart’s and Daniel Lee’s companies, Colonel John Greaton’s Massachusetts regiment. He was discharged near West Point, NY in March of 1782.
As a civilian, Zebediah was a cabinet maker. He and Luna resided in Ludlow, Hampton County, Massachusetts in the late 1780’s. In 1800, he and Luna are found in Paris, Oneida County, New York. Before 1820, the Coburn family had moved to Homer, Cortland County, New York. Their children were Durkee, Rhoda, Betsy, Demy, Asahel Durkee, Zebediah, Alva, Harry or Harvey, Polly, William and Dorsa Betsy.
Zebediah applied for pension on June 22, 1818, while residing in Homer, Cortland County, NY, (Pension Claim No. 43385). He was paid $8. Per month. Zebediah Coburn died in Homer, Cortland County, New York on April 1, 1839.
