Author: John Robinson Hundley III
James Clarke was born in Ulster County, Ireland, emigrated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Staunton in Augusta County, Virginia. He served as a soldier in Captain McCutchen's Company of the Augusta County, Virginia Militia. He is one of seven Revolutionary War Soldiers buried in the Trinity Church Cemetery in Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia. James Clarke died 13 January 1808 and was married to Jane King who died 08 March 1822. In 1800 James Clarke was appointed a teacher in the Staunton Academy, a private boys school.
