Reuben Chapman, (Ancestor # A020950) my GGGG Grandfather, (1746 - June 16, 1824) (SAR ancestor number 40031) born in Caroline Virginia and died in Caroline Va.

He was a member of the Virginia Militia. Service source Burgess, Virginia soldiers of 1776 , Vol. 1 PP 75-76, Brumbaugh, Rev. War Recs. Va. Vol. 1, PP 94, 109, 310. Captain with 3 years of service. Reuben Chapman appointed Thomas Green of Richmond his Atty. Signed and acknowledged before Robert W. Corbin.

He was awarded 4,000 acres for his service in the war. Reuben's daughter Ann married John Keesee and they were my GGG grandparents. John Keesee, fought in the War of 1812 and came to Montgomery County Tennessee. Their son, Reuben Chapman Keesee married Judith Pleasants Ligon and they were my GG grandparents. Captain Chapman's sons Reuben and Sam went to Huntsville Alabama where they both practiced Law.

Reuben was a congressman for many years and Governor of Alabama 1847 - 1849. He was the Confederate Ambassador to France during the Civil War.

His beautiful home in Huntsville was burned by Union soldiers during the war, but he rebuilt his home after the war and was very successful.
