CASE, AUGUSTUS SR., (Wayne County) [40.770 -82.070]
Born July 17, 1759 at Long Island, NY, a son of Joshua Case (1722-1777) and Elizabeth Dickerson Case (1722-1788). He served as a Private with NJ in 1777, enlisting in the Revolutionary Army and served to close of the war. He served in Capt. Noah Abraham's Company in the Cumberland County, PA, Militia in 1780; and as a Private in Capt. Peter Dickinson's Company, Col. Sylcanua Seeley's Eastern Battalion, Morris County, NJ, Militia during the Revolutionary War. He was in no-hard fought battles and in one skirmish. He married Elizabeth Bell (1765-1817) in 1794; Children: Anna, Samuel Y., Elizabeth, Sarah, John Bell, Phoebe, Augustus Jr., Onesium and Joshua. He was a carpenter and worked in shipyards in NY harbor. Augustus Case drew a pension of ninety-six dollars per year as a Revolutionary soldier. He died March 12, 1852 at Plain Twp., Wayne County, and was buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, Blachleyville, Wayne County, OH, near the church building. MI: "Augustus Case, Sr. D Mar 12, 1852, aged 92 yrs. 7 mos and 26 days." References: Pension #S8136, Abstracts of Rev War Pension Files by Virgil White, Vol. 1, p. 567. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
