Author: George Anthony Miller
Samuel Carpenter, Associates Exempt, enlisted in the Orange County, N.Y. Militia at the time of the Battle of Minnisink, which was fought 22 July 1775. He was appointed captain and assigned to guard the women and children at the Goshen County Courthouse during the battle.

Among the list of men who signed the Pledge to abide by the acts and doings of the Continental Congress appears the name
Samuel Carpenter.
