Author: Brian Christopher Eugene Darling

Thomas Canfield, born 1717 at Newark, New Jersey, was a known associate of Major Samuel Hayes.  He served as a Private.  Thomas was appointed Commissioner for the Appraisal of Confiscated (Tories) Estates. He was a member of a Patriotic Committee, Newark, appointed at a town meeting, 12 March 1776.  He was taken prisoner by the British.  Thomas Canfield married Elizabeth Baldwin.  He died 27 June 1791 at Newark, and was laid to rest at the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 827 Broad Street, Newark, NJ 07102.  GPS Coordinates of cemetery: 40.73456 x -74.17297.
