John Bush was baptized on 26 August 1726 in Mannheim, Preußen, Baden. He arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship Patience and Margaret and was qualified on 25 September 1748. 

He married Anna Maria Wagner on 29 October 1751 in York, Pennsylvania. They had the following known children:

  • Anna Elizabeth was born on 13 April 1752 and married Samuel Steineke.
  • Anna Christiana was born on 4 January 1754 and married Andreas Busse.
  • Anna Margaret was born on 15 January 1756.
  • Juliana was born in 1758 and died young.
  • Johannes "John" was born on 23 May 1760 and married Maria Kindig.
  • Cathartine was born in 1762.
  • Juliana was born on 11 May 1765.
  • Rosina was born on 14 May 1768 and married Joseph Schweisshaupt.
  • Anna Barbara was born on 14 May 1768 and married Philip Jacob Seitz.
  • Eva was born on 28 October 1770 and married John Jacob Seitz.
  • John Jacob was born on 1 June 1773 and married Anna Catharine Weinecke.

During the American Revolution, John performed patriotic service by paying the Supply Tax in York Township, York County, Pennsylvania, in 1779, 1780, & 1781.1

The Patriot died on 19 September 1781. His funeral was held on 21 September 1781 in the First Moravian Church, York, Pennsylvania. The officiating pastor was Georg Neisser. Registry information includes the fact that he was 55 years, six months, and 22 days.2

His Last Will and Testament was recorded on 13 September 1781 and proved on 27 November 1781. The estate executors were Henry and Jacob Lenus of York Township. He left his estate to his wife, Anna, and children John, Jacob, Elizabeth, Christiana, Anna, Catharine, Juliana, Rosina, Barbara, and stepdaughter Anna, wife of Frantz Milen.3
