Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn

Born Nov 1, 1748, Greenfield, Connecticut, a son of Stephen Buckingham (1703-_) and Elizabeth Sherwood (1708-_). He was a Private in the 12th Regiment of New Volunteers under Colonel Jacobus Von Schoonhaven, serving from 1779 to the end of the war. He married Esther Bradley Oct 23, 1770; Children: Ebenezer, Rachel, Stephen, Ebenezer Jr., Sarah, Esther, Brandley, Milton, Elizabeth, Alvah, John, Alatilda and Parnelia. He died (according to stone) Oct 24, 1824 at Carthage Twp, Athens Co., OH and was buried at Cooley Cemetery Burying Grounds Athens Co, Carthage Twp. Also called Glazier and Old Brick. This Cemetery used to be called the Cooley Cemetery. People began to call it the Glazier cemetery as not to confuse it with the other Cooley Cemetery located in Troy township. It is located in Section 22 of Carthage township. The cemetery is located on the east side of Glazier Road (Township Road 108) about 0.7 miles south of its intersection with Mill School Road (County Road 42). MI: "Ebenezer Buckingham, who departed this life Oct 14 A. D. 1824 in the 76th year of age. He died at his residence in peace and in full faith and assurance of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Blessed are the dead who die in the lord." GM by his family. About 1779 he removed to NY state, thence to Ohio arriving in the spring of 1800. He was living at the mouth of the Hockhocking in 1802, but soon removed to Carthage Twp where he died.
