Jean Baptiste Broussard was a Private within the Spanish Colonial (LA) Attakapas (pronounced: Attack-a-paw) Militia; commanded by Governor/Gen. Bernardo de Galvez,; Broussard joined on 19 Aug 1779, in the defense of "Luisiana" from British attack after Spain's secret declaration of war was made public at New Orleans
