John Henry Bottorff was born to John Adam Bottorff (also spelled as Batdorf, Potorf, Pottorff ) and Anna Catherine Zeller on 17 October 1754 in Harrisburg, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
On 23 July 1776, he married Sophia Fricker in Christ’s Lutheran Church, Stouchsberg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They had eight children as listed below:

In 1780, John Henry Bottorff joined the Berks County Pennsylvania Militia. He served as an Ensign in Captain Michael Wolf’s Company whose company was at Brandywine and Germantown, PA.
He died on or around 10 May 1806 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. He was a lay preacher (his tombstone shows his name as Reverend John Henry Bottorff) who disappeared on a trip. His body was discovered in 1806. It was decided that he was either attacked by animals of some kind or died as a result of an asthma attack. Items were found near this remains that would have been stolen by Indians if they had been responsible for his death. He is buried in Jefferson County, Kentucky.

The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
