BODKIN (BOTKIN), CHARLES.] Born in 1738 in Northern Ireland the son of Richard and Elizabeth Botkin, natives of Ireland, who later resided in Bull Pasture, Augusta County, Virginia. He Lived in Va. until 1809 when he came to Sinking River Valley, N.E. of Springfield, OH. He Served with forces of General Braddock in French and Indian War; 1777 enlisted in Capt. David Scott's Company, 9th Virginia Regiment for three years, Discharged at Fort Pitt 9-16-1780, Served at Valley Forge and at the capture of the Hessians at Trenton. There he met and Married 1) Jemema Karl (1763-1807), [dau. of Major Isaac Karl, a Hessian officer who remained in this country and changed his name to Curle] in 1782. He married 2) Rebecca Richard (1777-1812) in Harrisburg, PA; children: #1 George b. 1783, Jeremiah b. 1784, Elizabeth b. 1785, Richard b. 1787, Mary b. 1788, Margaret b. 1790, Charles b. 1792, William b. 1794, James b. 1796, John b. 1797, Sally b. 1800, Isaac b. 1802, Anna b. 1804, Jemima b. 1806; #2 Lydia b. 1808, Saul b. 1810 and Moses b. 1812. He died at 81 years of age in 1819 and buried at Asbury Cemetery, Catawba, Clark County, Ohio. Cemetery Notes: The cemetery is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Vernon-Asbury Road (County Road 358) and Jones Road (County Road 367). The cemetery is located in Pleasant Township, Clark County, Ohio. Gravesite unknown.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
