When William Bost was born in 1739 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, his father, Johannes, was 20 and his mother, Susanna, was 16. He married Catherine Goodhart on January 19, 1762, in Rowan County, North Carolina. They had at least 8 children in 34 years.

"Soon after the move to NC was made, Johann Wilhelm Bast, aka William Bost, married Catherine Goodhart and settled in what was in his lifetime Lincoln Co. and is now Catawba Co., NC. William had the following children:
Utille, who married John Smyre; Margaret Bost, who married Adam Winkler and settled in KY; Magdalena, who married Andrew Sitz, and settled first in TN, later in AL; Catherine, who married her first cousin Conrad Bost; Elizabeth Bost, who was single, and three sons, John Bost, who settled in TN; William Bost, Jr. Elias Bost b. 1772 m. Mary M. Ikerd and had a large family: sons Jonas, Jonathan, Jesse, Eli (who settled in Iredell Co.), and Willliam Robert Davidson Bost (W. R. D.). His daughters were Salome (Sally) who m. Michael S. Cline, Mary who m. George Rauch/Rowe, Nancy, who m. Conrad Fry, and Leah who m. Moses Fry."

He died in January 1822 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, having lived a long life of 83 years. He is buried in the front row of the Old St Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His gravestone is a standing granite marker, five feet tall, inscribed with names of his wife and children.
