Antoine was born about 1732, a son of Gabriel Laurens Bordelon and Anne-Francoise Roland. Gabriel was employed by the La Compagnie des Indes (the Company of the Indies) and married Roland at New Orleans in 1729/1730. Antoine's father died before his birth in 1731 (he is not listed in the January 1732 census). After his birth, his mother moved the family to Pointe Coupee Post and married for the third time in 1737 to Jean Stephan dit Roquancourt. This is where, at the age of 12, Antoine is found in the 1745 census living with his mother and stepfather. On 2 April 1759, he entered into a marriage contract for Marie Anne Decuir, where he is identified as a major in the militia. The contract states that he gave his new wife 1,000 livres and the bride's dowry consisted of 2,511 livres, 5 sols including a sum of 1,247 livres, and 5 sols due her from the succession of her father, in addition to other financial considerations.

In the 1770 Militia Roll, Antoine is listed ad the "Sous Aide Major" for the Pointe Coupee Post. At the baptism of his son Francois, he is also listed as the Warden of the Parish church.

During the American Revolutionary War, Spain provided assistance to the Continental Army beginning in 1776 and by 1779 declared war on Britain. All of Louisiana's militias had been activated by 1777 with the arrival of Bernando Galvez as governor. In a 1781 Spanish document, it states that Antoine was "...an officer in the Baton Rouge campaign and since that Natchez," during the war.

Antoine's first wife - Anne Marie Decuir - died 22 December 1788. He had seven children with Decuir: Pierre (b. 1761), Marianne (b. 1764), Antoine, II (b. 1767), Augustin (b. 1768), Francois (b. 1771), Lucille (b. 1773), and Hilaire (b. 1777). He married Marguerite Frederic (her second marriage), 20 July 1779. With Frederic, he had an additional five children: Felicite ( b. 1780), Victoire (b. 1781), Valery (b. 1782), Zenon (b. 1782), and his twin, Charles (b. 1782). In total, Antoine had 12 children.

By the 1785 census, he had moved his family to the Avoyelles Post to live on a land grant given to him by the Spanish government for his service during the war (See Am. State Papers, v. 8, p. 165). At the age of 53 years, he died at Avoyelles, 24 November 1785. He was buried in the cemetery attached to the St. Francis church in Pointe Coupee, as there was no Catholic church in Avoyelles until 1796.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
