Christianus "Christian" Bleymeyer was baptized on 3 April 1741 in Masenbach, Wurttemberg, Germany, the son of Martin Bleymeyer. Martin was the son of Hans Jerg Bleymeier, a citizen of Stetten, Germany, and Johanna Fridricca, daughter of Joh. Ulrich Schmaltzhaff.1

He arrived in Philadelphia with his father, stepmother, and three older brothers in 1749 aboard the ship Jacob, carrying 290 passengers from Swabia, Wirtemberg, and Darmstadt.2

Christian married Maria Elizabeth Giese on 22 May 1768 in York County, Pennsylvania. She was born on 16 March 1740, the daughter of Conrad and Anna Barbara (Werles) Giese. Their known children were:

  • George "Martin" was born on 20 May 1769 and married Margaret Kauffman.
  • Johannes "John" was born on 13 April 1770 and married Margaret Young.
  • Magdalena was born on 1 November 1771 and married Johannes Flinschbach.
  • Conrad was born in Jan 1774.
  • Johannes Jacob was born on 22 March 1782.
  • Elisabeth was born on 5 April 1784.

From 1779 through 1783, he is recorded on the Returns of Taxables in Hopewell Township, York County, Pennsylvania, which raised funds to purchase supplies to aid the war effort.3

In 1780 Christian was listed as a Private of the 1st Class in Captain George Long's Sixth Company, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Miller of York County. He was a member of a party of the York County Militia that apprehended British Deserters and Prisoners and brought them to the Stockade Fort.4

Two different Probate Bonds for the estate(s) of Christian Bleymeyer in Hopewell Township, York County, were issued:

  • The first one was issued to Magdalena Bleymeyer and Warner Light on 29 October 1804.
  • The second bond was issued to John Bleymeye and John Blinshback on 26 April 1805. We know that Christian's daughter Magdalena was married to Johannes Flinschbach. This strongly indicates the bonds were issued to Christian's son and son-in-law.

This raises the question, was the 1804 bond issued to daughter Magdalena, only later to be given to her husband?

According to an unsourced Find-A-Grave memorial, Christian Bleymeyer died in 1805 (aged 63 - 64) and is buried in Saint John's Blymire UCC cemetery in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. His wife, Maria Elizabeth, died on 20 December 1818 (aged 78) and is buried in the same cemetery.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
