Matthew Bishop was born abt 1740 and married a girl named Martha whose maiden name is unknown. He probably married in Brunswick County, VA.

He was a Revolutionary War soldier and is listed in Captain David Beatie's unit.

In some accounts, he is listed as a participant int eh Battle of Kings Mountain.

He also sold the Revolutionary Army 300 pounds of beef.
