James Berry was born October 14, 1759 at Deer Creek in Maryland and lived in Smyrna, Delaware, when he enlisted as Private for Delaware under Captain Skillington. After the war James lived in Chestertown, Maryland, then Cecil County, then Baltimore, Maryland. He migrated to Hamilton County, Ohio in 1820. James applied for a pension in April 1845. He died on March 17, 1847, and was buried at Wesleyan Cemetery, at Colerain Avenue and Hoffner Street. There is a family headstone, but no individual marker for James in section “G” lot 3. James also has name on a 20” X 30” Granite memorial stone next to the GAR monument at Wesleyan Cemetery. James’ name is on a Memorial Monument for the Revolutionary War Patriots at Wesleyan Cemetery, 4100 Colerain Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45223-2684. [References: Revolutionary War Graves Register.
