Qualifying Service Description:
  1. 1776-1777, he served as a Private in the company of Captain Gabriel Long in the 11th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel Daniel Morgan (later commanded by Lieutenant Philip Slaughter, Major Snead, Colonel William Blackwell, and Lieutenant-Colonel John Cropper)
  2. 1778-1779, he was attached to Captain Charles Porterfield's company, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel John Cropper and Colonel Daniel Morgan of the 11th (later the 7th) Regiment

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format.
