David Bent was born 30 March 1730 in Framingham, Massachusetts Bay Colony, the son of David Bent (1691-1730) and Mary Drury (1694-1752). His father died a month later. He was one of six children all born in Framingham (John born 22 Oct 1713, David born 22 Mar 1717, Mary born 5 Aug 1718 married 24 Sep 1741 to David Goodenow, Lydia born 06 Apr 1721 married 1739 to William Beal of Natick, Sarah born 12 January 1727 married 13 Mar 1751 to Bezalee Rice, and David born 1730. He died 15 January 1798 in Rutland, Massachusetts at age 68. David Bent (1730-1798) marched to Cambridge April 18, 1775 with Colonel Nathaniel Sparhawk's Regiment the day after the Battle of Lexington. David Bent was commissioned First Lieutenant in Captain Bowker's (also known as Bowham) Company attached to Colonel Whitney's regiment. David became Captain of the 5th Company in the 7th Worcester County Regiment (Massachusetts), serving until 13 Mar 1780. David married Lucy Moore (1733-1783), daughter of Peter Moore and Mary Goodenow 03 Apr 1751. He moved then or possibly before to Rutland. Lucy and David Bent's children were Micah 9born 1751, died 1756), John (born 1754, died 1756), David Bent Jr (born 03 Apr 1756 in Rutland, Massachusetts, died 01 January 1832 in Mount Holly, Vermont), Lucy (born 04 June 1758, married Joseph Green 1774), Peter (born 16 May 1760, enlisted in the Continental Army for a term "the remainder of the war" but died or was killed after serving 2 years, 10 months, and 17 days), Phebe (born 08 Feb 1763, died 08 Oct 1799, married John M. A portion of that farm became in 1765 the district of Paxton, incorporated as a town 1775. After Lucy's death, David married his second wife Martha Browning (born 21 Nov 1744, died 09 Jul 1817) daughter of James and Elizabeth Browning of Rutland. David and Martha had one son, Samuel Browning (born 27 Nov 1784). This biography was provided by Jay Steinke.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
