Joseph Barber also reached the rank of sergeant and who may have fought at the battle of Bennington. Though his unit was not listed as a participant, it may have been on call and on the ready.

Joseph was already living in the Pownal, VT area at the outbreak of the War. He was a member of the Pownal Alarm Company in 1780 and in 1781. Earlier, as a member of Herrick's Regiment he marched to the relief of the Northern Army at at Saratoga.

He was born 14 Aug 1744 and died on 31 Dec 1806 in Pownal.

He is buried in the Towsley Cemetery in Bennington county, VT.
