John Banning was born in Kent County in 1740, married to Elizabeth Alford Casson between 1781 to 1785 and had two children, Sarah Banning born in 1787 and John Alford Banning born in 1790.  John was elected to the Committee of Correspondence in Kent County in 1775 and then became a Private in Capt. Thomas Rodney's Dover Light Infantry Company in 1776. John then served in the 1st Delaware General Assembly as a member of the Legislative Council in 1781.  He died February 15th, 1791.
