Qualifying Service Description:
  1. 1777, he served in the 4th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Line under Lieutenant-Colonel William Butler and Colonel Lambert Cadwalader.
  2. 1781, he served in the company of Captain William Moore, 2nd Battalion of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Edward.
  3. He also served as a Ranger on the Frontier.

Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn

John Baltzly was born on 13 October 1759 in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

In 1777, he served as a Private in the 4th Pennsylvania Regiment, Continental Line. In 1781, he also served in the 1st Company of Captain John Moore, 2nd Battalion of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Edward. 

In about 1788, he married Lucinda Clapper. It is thought that she was his second wife.

His known children were:

  • John was born on 12 April 1789 and married Elizabeth Baker.
  • Anna Mary was born on 5 October 1790 and married Michael Uhrich Jr.
  • Peter was born on 1 January 1795 and married Catherine Riddinger.
  • Sarah was born on 11 May 1797 and married Jacob Hoopingarner.
  • Fanny was born on 7 June 1802 and married Gabriel Romig.
  • Daniel was born on 14 March 1805 and married Elizabeth Winklepleck.

The Patriot died on 29 October 1814 and was buried in the Fair Street Cemetery in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
