Born July 15, 1757 in Hanover, Morris, New Jersey, a son of David Ball and Sarah Dickens, Samuel Ball enlisted in Capt. Morrison’s Essex Company, June 1778, in Col. Matthias Ogden's Regiment; he was at Monmouth among other places. He married 1) Mary Lindsly; they had sons Sydney and Cornelius, 2) Hannah McVeig in 1824. He died November 20, 1844, in Jersey Township and was buried at Jersey Presbyterian Cemetery, 12239 Morse road, Jersey, Ohio. His monument inscription reads, "Rev War." His grave received a marker by the Hetuck Chapter.
