Abraham Arey was born in 1757 in Rowan County, North Carolina, the child of Johann Petter and Mary Cathren. He married Maria Elizabeth Ketchie and they had three children together, Peter, John and Abraham. He then married Catharine Clingerman on November 23, 1821, in Rowan County, North Carolina.
His surname is spelled Ihrig on his pension application.
Service: CAPT. GRAY - REGT. COMMANDED BY COL. LOCKE, BATTLE OF CAMDEN in 1779. He served under Captain James Craig and guarded British prisoners on march from South Carolina to Salisbury. He also served three months in 1781 under Major General Greene.
He died on January 2, 1844, in Rowan County, North Carolina, having lived a long life of 87 years. He is buried in the Union Lutheran Church Cemetery, east of Salisbury, Rowan County. The church is located at 4770 Bringle Ferry Road. His grave is in seventh row and east side of the church, in an area of stones and unmarked graves. Standing government-issued tombstone, 32 inches tall.

The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
